A GREEN BURIAL IS
  • Dignified
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Natural
  • Affordable

A green burial involves laying your cherished pet to rest on a bed of organic material, which is then covered to allow a return to the earth as nature intended, rather than ending up in a landfill.
The composting process is a scientific method that must be carefully monitored to ensure compliance with the Department of Environmental Affairs and the Department of Environmental Health.

Our Green Burial/Composting site operates as a working compost site. It’s essential for pet owners to recognize that the burial mounds are regularly turned to generate the heat required for the natural breakdown process. Unlike a traditional burial ground, this is an active compost site, where one can expect to see significant burial mounds containing pets and horses. The site is privately owned and open to the public only by appointment.

The composting process can take between 3 to 6 months, reaching temperatures of up to 70 degrees Celsius, resulting in rich, beautiful compost that is reused within the composting facility.

WORKING COMPOST SITE

Our Green Burial/Composting site is a working compost site, it is important for pet owners to understand that the burial mounds are turned regularly to evoke the heat needed for the natural break-down process to occur. The difference between this and a normal burial ground is that it is a working compost site, one can expect to see large burial mounds where pets and horses are laid to rest.  The burial site is privately owned and not open to the public unless by appointment.
